Rhyme Scheme: ABBAA CDDCC EFFEE GHHGG IJJIK LMMLL ENNEE

The fire burns brightA
And the hearth is clean sweptB
As she likes it keptB
And the lamp is alightA
She is coming to nightA
-
The wind's east of lateC
When she comes she'll be coldD
So the big chair is rolledD
Close up to the grateC
And I listen and waitC
-
The shutters are fastE
And the red curtains hideF
Every hint of outsideF
But hark how the blastE
Whistled then as it passedE
-
Or was it the trainG
How long shall I standH
With my watch in my handH
And listen in vainG
For the wheels in the laneG
-
Hark A rumble I hearI
Will the wind not be stillJ
And it comes down the hillJ
And it grows on the earI
And now it is nearK
-
Quick a fresh log to burnL
Run and open the doorM
Hold a lamp out beforeM
To light up the turnL
And bring in the urnL
-
You are come then at lastE
O my dear is it youN
I can scarce think it trueN
I am holding you fastE
And sorrow is pastE
