Hurrah for the Science ClubA
Join it ye fourth year menB
Join it thou smooth cheeked scrubA
Whose years scarce number tenB
-
Join it divines most graveC
Science as all men knowD
As a friend the Church may saveC
But may damage her as a foeD
-
And in any case it is wellE
If attacking insidious doubtF
Or devoting H to H-
To know what you're talking aboutF
-
Hurrah for the lang nebbit wordG
Hurrah for the erudite phraseH
That in Dura Den shall be heardG
That shall echo on Kinkell BraesH
-
Hurrah for the spoils of the linksH
The golf ball as well as the daisyH
Hurrah for explosions and stinksH
To set half the landladies crazyH
-
Hurrah for the fragments of bouldersH
Surpassing in size and in weightI
To be carried home on the shouldersH
And laid on the table in stateI
-
Hurrah for the flying machineJ
Long buried from sight in a cupboardG
With bones that would never have beenK
Desired of old Mother HubbardG
-
Hurrah for the hazardous boatL
For the crabs of all kinds to be caughtM
For the eggs on the surface that floatL
And the lump sucker curiously wroughtN
-
Hurrah for the filling of tanksH
In the shanty down by the shoreO
For the Royal Society's thanksH
With Fellowships flying galoreO
-
Hurrah for discourses on wormsH
Where one listens and comes awayP
With a stock of bewildering termsH
And nothing whatever to payP
-
Hurrah for gadding aboutF
Of a Saturday afternoonQ
In the light of research setting outF
Coming home in the light of the moonQ
-
Hurrah for Guardbridge and the millR
Where one learns how paper is madeS
Hurrah for the samples that fillR
One's drawer with the finest cream laidS
-
Hurrah for the Brewery visitT
And beer in liberal dosesH
In the cause of Science what is itU
But inspecting a technical processH
-
Hurrah for a trip to DundeeH
To study the spinning of juteV
Hurrah for a restaurant teaH
And a sight of the Tay Bridge to bootV
-
Hurrah after every excursionW
To feel one's improving one's mindX
With the smallest amount of exertionW
And that of the pleasantest kindX
