The rain had fallen the Poet aroseA
He passed through the doorway into the streetB
A strong wind lifted his hat from his headC
And he uttered some words that were far from sweetB
And then he started to follow the chaseD
And put on a spurt that was wild and fleetB
It made the people pause in a crowdE
And lay odds as to which would beatB

The street cad scoffed as he hunted the hatF
The errand boy shouted hoorayG
The scavenger stood with his broom in his handH
And smiled in a very rude wayG
And the clergyman thought 'I have heard many wordsI
But never until to dayG
Did I hear any words that were quite so badJ
As I heard that young man say '-
