The M.a. Degree Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCDEEFFGHIIJJKKLMNN OPQQRRSSBB

After WordsworthA
-
-
It was a phantom of delightB
When first it gleamed upon my sightB
A scholarly distinction sentC
To be a student's ornamentD
The hood was rich beyond compareE
The gown was a unique affairE
By this by that my mind was drawnF
Then in my academic dawnF
A dancing shape an image gayG
Before me then was my M AH
I saw it upon nearer viewI
A glory yet a bother tooI
For I perceived that I should beJ
Involved in much PhilosophyJ
A branch in which I could but meetK
Works that were neither light nor sweetK
In Mathematics not too goodL
For human nature's daily foodM
And Classics rendered in the stylesN
Of Kelly Bohn and Dr GilesN
And now I own with some small spleenO
A most confounded ass I've beenP
The glory seems an empty breathQ
And I am nearly bored to deathQ
With Reason Consciousness and WillR
And other things beyond my skillR
Discussed in books all darkly plannedS
And more in number than the sandS
Yet that M A still haunts my sightB
With something of its former lightB
