The First Meeting Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA ABBA CDCDCD

Last night for the first time O Heart's DelightA
I held your hand a moment in my ownB
The dearest moment which my soul has knownB
Since I beheld and loved you at first sightA
-
I left you and I wandered in the nightA
Under the rain beside the ocean's moanB
All was black dark but in the north aloneB
There was a glimmer of the Northern LightA
-
My heart was singing like a happy birdC
Glad of the present and from forethought freeD
Save for one note amid its music heardC
God grant whatever end of this may beD
That when the tale is told the final wordC
May be of peace and benison to theeD
