Stanzas For Music Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFGHCIJ KLMLNOPOQCIC QRSRAET FCII loved a little maiden | A |
In the golden years gone by | B |
She lived in a mill as they all do | C |
There is doubtless a reason why | B |
But she faded in the autumn | D |
When the leaves began to fade | E |
And the night before she faded | F |
These words to me she said | G |
'Do not forget me Henry | H |
Be noble and brave and true | C |
But I must not bide for the world is wide | I |
And the sky above is blue ' | J |
- | |
So I said farewell to my darling | K |
And sailed away and came back | L |
And the good ship Jane was in port again | M |
And I found that they all loved Jack | L |
But Polly and I were sweethearts | N |
As all the neighbours know | O |
Before I met with the mill girl | P |
Twenty years ago | O |
So I thought I would go and see her | Q |
But alas she had faded too | C |
She could not bide for the world was wide | I |
And the sky above was blue | C |
- | |
And now I can only remember | Q |
The maid the maid of the mill | R |
And Polly and one or two others | S |
In the churchyard over the hill | R |
And I sadly ask the question | A |
As I weep in the yew tree's shade | E |
With my elbow on one of their tombstones | T |
'Ah why did they all of them fade ' | - |
And the answer I half expected | F |
Comes from the solemn yew | C |
'They could none of them bide for the world was wide | I |
And the sky above was blue ' | - |
