Stanzas For Music Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFGHCIJ KLMLNOPOQCIC QRSRAET FCI

I loved a little maidenA
In the golden years gone byB
She lived in a mill as they all doC
There is doubtless a reason whyB
But she faded in the autumnD
When the leaves began to fadeE
And the night before she fadedF
These words to me she saidG
'Do not forget me HenryH
Be noble and brave and trueC
But I must not bide for the world is wideI
And the sky above is blue 'J
-
So I said farewell to my darlingK
And sailed away and came backL
And the good ship Jane was in port againM
And I found that they all loved JackL
But Polly and I were sweetheartsN
As all the neighbours knowO
Before I met with the mill girlP
Twenty years agoO
So I thought I would go and see herQ
But alas she had faded tooC
She could not bide for the world was wideI
And the sky above was blueC
-
And now I can only rememberQ
The maid the maid of the millR
And Polly and one or two othersS
In the churchyard over the hillR
And I sadly ask the questionA
As I weep in the yew tree's shadeE
With my elbow on one of their tombstonesT
'Ah why did they all of them fade '-
And the answer I half expectedF
Comes from the solemn yewC
'They could none of them bide for the world was wideI
And the sky above was blue '-
