Hymn Of Hippolytus To Artemis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDDEFGGGGHHIHI IIIJJKKArtemis thou fairest | A |
Of the maids that be | B |
In divine Olympus | C |
Hail Hail to thee | B |
To thee I bring this woven weed | D |
Culled for thee from a virgin mead | D |
Where neither shepherd claims his flocks to feed | D |
Nor ever yet the mower's scythe hath come | E |
There in the Spring the wild bee hath his home | F |
Lightly passing to and fro | G |
Where the virgin flowers grow | G |
And there the watchful Purity doth go | G |
Moistening with dew drops all the ground below | G |
Drawn from a river untaintedly flowing | H |
They who have gained by a kind fate's bestowing | H |
Pure hearts untaught by philosophy's care | I |
May gather the flowers in the mead that are blowing | H |
But the tainted in spirit may never be there | I |
- | |
Now O Divinest eternally fair | I |
Take thou this garland to gather thy hair | I |
Brought by a hand that is pure as the air | I |
For I alone of all the sons of men | J |
Hear thy pure accents answering thee again | J |
And may I reach the goal of life as I began the race | K |
Blest by the music of thy voice though darkness ever veil thy face | K |
