Hymn Of Hippolytus To Artemis Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDDDEFGGGGHHIHI IIIJJKK

Artemis thou fairestA
Of the maids that beB
In divine OlympusC
Hail Hail to theeB
To thee I bring this woven weedD
Culled for thee from a virgin meadD
Where neither shepherd claims his flocks to feedD
Nor ever yet the mower's scythe hath comeE
There in the Spring the wild bee hath his homeF
Lightly passing to and froG
Where the virgin flowers growG
And there the watchful Purity doth goG
Moistening with dew drops all the ground belowG
Drawn from a river untaintedly flowingH
They who have gained by a kind fate's bestowingH
Pure hearts untaught by philosophy's careI
May gather the flowers in the mead that are blowingH
But the tainted in spirit may never be thereI
-
Now O Divinest eternally fairI
Take thou this garland to gather thy hairI
Brought by a hand that is pure as the airI
For I alone of all the sons of menJ
Hear thy pure accents answering thee againJ
And may I reach the goal of life as I began the raceK
Blest by the music of thy voice though darkness ever veil thy faceK
