An Orator-s Complaint Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC AEEA FDDF GHHG DIID ADD

How many the troubles that waitA
On mortals especially thoseB
Who endeavour in eloquent proseB
To expound their views and orateA
-
Did you ever attempt to speakC
When you hadn't a word to sayD
Did you find that it wouldn't payD
And subside feeling dreadfully weakC
-
Did you ever when going aheadA
In a fervid defence of the StageE
Get checked in your noble rageE
By somehow losing your threadA
-
Did you ever rise to replyF
To a toast say 'The Volunteers'D
And evoke loud laughter and cheersD
When you didn't exactly know whyF
-
Did you ever wax witty and whenG
You had smashed an opponent quite smallH
Did he seem not to mind it at allH
But get up and smash you againG
-
If any or all of these thingsD
Have happened to you as to meI
I think you'll be found to agreeI
With yours truly when sadly he singsD
-
'How many the troubles that waitA
On mortals especially thoseD
Who endeavour in eloquent proseD
To expound their views and orate '-
