A Tennyson Fragment Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJIGHKL M N OOP QQP KKP QQP

So in the village inn the poet dweltA
His honey dew was gone only the pouchB
His cousin's work her empty labour leftC
But still he sniffed it still a fragrance clungD
And lingered all about the broidered flowersE
Then came his landlord saying in broad ScotchF
Smoke plug mon ' whom he looked at doubtfullyG
Then came the grocer saying Hae some twistH
At tippence ' whom he answered with a qualmI
But when they left him to himself againJ
Twist like a fiend's breath from a distant roomI
Diffusing through the passage crept the smellG
Deepening had power upon him and he mixtH
His fancies with the billow lifted bayK
Of Biscay and the rollings of a shipL
-
And on that night he made a little songM
And called his song The Song of Twist and Plug '-
And sang it scarcely could he make or singN
-
Rank is black plug though smoked in wind and rainO
And rank is twist which gives no end of painO
I know not which is ranker no not IP
-
Plug art thou rank then milder twist must beQ
Plug thou art milder rank is twist to meQ
O twist if plug be milder let me buyP
-
Rank twist that seems to make me fade awayK
Rank plug that navvies smoke in loveless clayK
I know not which is ranker no not IP
-
I fain would purchase flake if that could beQ
I needs must purchase plug ah woe is meQ
Plug and a cutty a cutty let me buyP
