| The universe is not so very old | A |
| The stars are not suns to earth shall they fall | B |
| Those shining daily circling spheres are small | B |
| And children to the sun and moon The sun | C |
| Which like them daily round the earth does run | C |
| The moon a little slower round earth goes | D |
| Every day and the very same size shows | D |
| Herself to be with her husband the sun | C |
| For he which tells us when the day is done | C |
| Is also smaller than earth and quite near | E |
| For it s dark when he hides behind earth s sphere | E |
| And only then does the moon shine clear bright | F |
| Proving thereby that it has its own light | F |
| One can see its light slowly revolving | G |
| One hundred and eighty degrees shining | G |
| Always and always it is going round | H |
| Like a clock ticking but without a sound | H |
| The sun is higher than the moon and yet | I |
| Is seen as the same size for they are set | I |
| Together in the sky and they are far | J |
| But not as imagined And every star | J |
| Fixed above them is somewhat higher still | K |
| At the same height for together they fill | K |
| Our vision above going round about | L |
| The earth at the same time But further out | L |
| No one can see since there is nothing there | M |
| No void of space no mysterious air | M |
| No light no fire no gas nor solid thing | G |
| Nothing at all for our imagining | G |
| And since these things be so which our eyes see | N |
| A display of lights which God did decree | N |
| In the heavens how then can the earth s skies | O |
| Be so much wider How so vast in size | O |
| For the stars which were made to be seen count | P |
| Numbering in thousands is their amount | P |
| How can earth not to the heavens compare | M |
| How can the heavens have much room to spare | M |
| For the heavens only mean the earth s sky | Q |
| And they re not heavens where the earth does lie | Q |
| Else the heavens would then not be above | R |
| For the stars rotate as if they all love | R |
| The earth for to it they are bound for it | S |
| They are thus the skies have a ceiling lit | S |
| The stars are not far away but they re high | Q |
| With sun and moon they make a deeper sky | Q |
| Earth s second heaven where no atmosphere | E |
| Exists and which ends where they do appear | E |
| The fixed stars are the highest things that swim | T |
| In the universe s outermost rim | T |
| Waters above the heavens turning round | H |
| From east to west are furthest from the ground | H |
| And swirling make the sun and moon s motion | C |
| As if they were like ships on an ocean | C |
| So moved they are by surrounding forces | U |
| And so they run daily on their courses | V |
| The stars themselves are in the waters flow | W |
| And hence they twinkle with flickering glow | W |
| But the wandering stars that are below | W |
| Are free to move whichever way they go | W |
| Beneath these planets is the atmosphere | E |
| Herein the clouds form where the LORD is near | E |
| The LORD who is God he rides upon clouds | X |
| And like a veil they his Spirit enshrouds | X |
| This first heaven is for his chariot | Y |
| Through its thick dark mist he breaks the quiet | Y |
| He walks on the wings of the wind he whirls | X |
| About the world beneath the sparkling pearls | X |
| The lightnings are the thunders of his voice | X |
| Which though they may hurt or kill I rejoice | X |
| The meek in heart God is yet a lion | C |
| And he roars from the north pole from Sion | C |
| He sends forth his command from there above | R |
| In the north celestial pole dwells sweet love | R |
| There is the hope of hearts Jerusalem | Z |
| Like a dream like an untouchable gem | A2 |
| Its immaterial matter is ablaze | X |
| Gold palaces burn in endless amaze | X |
| God does nothing except in his wisdom | Z |
| In love in chastening for his kingdom | Z |
| And he burns up the wicked with arrows | X |
| Flames from his mouth and bright light he bellows | X |
| For he is the mighty LORD of thunder | B2 |
| The true God with Jesus Son of wonder | B2 |
| He casts stones from heaven as he pleases | X |
| And with his hand a lightning sword seizes | X |
| Angels chariots and horses of fire | B2 |
| He wields in his will to fulfill desire | B2 |
| Swifter than eagles swift as the whirlwind | C2 |
| Chariots and horses fly and exscind | C2 |
| The wicked He casts a glittering spear | E |
| And ball lightning in mystery floats near | E |
| His anger and rebuke are flames of fire | B2 |
| Yet born of music softer than a lyre | D2 |
| His Spirit is love softer than the sea | X |
| Yet from waves tempest tossed the wicked flee | X |
| Wrath is as the wind on a sea of calm | E2 |
| Love deadly but at heart a healing balm | E2 |
| In the first heaven of clouds God does roam | F2 |
| Yet the north celestial pole is his home | F2 |
| To Jerusalem the pure in spirit | C2 |
| Go and there with the King of kings they sit | C2 |
| In his bosom dwelling and therein lit | C2 |
| Shining like the sun and as golden writ | C2 |
| In his shining eyes speak eternal love | R |
| Utter words in the sweetness of the Dove | R |
| The LORD S children in their childlikeness gleam | G2 |
| As if they were his deep celestial dream | G2 |
| But better than any phantom image | H2 |
| They ever make the smiles of his visage | H2 |
| Their joy is not to be pleased but to please | X |
| Thus Lord Jesus died for them to appease | X |
| The wrath of God which they did not deserve | I2 |
| For unknowingly they did Satan serve | I2 |
| For though their flesh sinned their spirit did not | C2 |
| Thus for God to distinguish the bad lot | C2 |
| From the good and not in rage against sin | C |
| Commit injustice Jesus died and in | C |
| Him we died as perfectly resisting | G |
| Sin for his flesh was the representing | G |
| Of us all as perfectly obedient | C2 |
| For that righteousness was our true intent | C2 |
| For Satan made our white appear as black | J2 |
| But Jesus took that sin and changed it back | J2 |
| Bearing our sin meant interpreting it | C2 |
| As it really is as righteousness lit | C2 |
| Up in God the bright Sun of righteousness | X |
| Showing us to God as pure in whiteness | X |
| Through his own spotless grand obedient act | C2 |
| For his death showed our innocence as fact | C2 |
| In the heart of God to his emotion | C |
| To still him to calm the enraged ocean | C |
| That God who is love a fiery Spirit | C2 |
| Would not unjustly send into the pit | C2 |
| His own children who were entangled in | C |
| With their flesh the wicked doers own sin | C |
| That there might be a true separation | C |
| In the heart of God through the elation | C |
| Of seeing in Jesus his own children | C |
| As spotless as he and as distinct then | C |
| As he is from the wicked For Jesus | X |
| The offering for his children pleases | X |
| The heart of God in a perfect manner | B2 |
| And thus Christ s cross is our only banner | B2 |
| Behold the pain that made crimson sin white | C2 |
| That interpreted darkness as pure light | C2 |
| Behold the pain the banner does declare | M |
| And into this banner of Christ s cross stare | M |
| Gaze till sin is stripped naked and made fair | M |
| Till you see yourself as righteousness there | M |
