There was once a foaming seaA
Facing near eternityA
On it a woman and childB
With hair blowing in the wildB
Stood on waves that heaved to sighC
Smiled upon the flaming skyC
Their eyes burned with sunlit joyD
Fiery gold without alloyD
Something in their upward stareE
Arose to sail on the airE
Their souls united as oneF
Upon the waves of the sunF
Over hill and over dellG
They shone and on the bluebellG
Smiling happy beams appearedH
Wherein passers by were cheeredH
Swaying in sunny flowersI
Singing sweetly in bowersI
Merry birds entered the throngJ
With distended throats in songJ
Little children laughed with gleeA
Gazing at the far off seaA
And in it the azure blueK
Sung of things they never knewK
The glints and gleams ever tossedL
Till over the sea they crossedL
With eyes of sapphire they dancedM
On glittering waves that prancedM
Longing for another landM
Delighting the Father grandM
One of them a little boyD
Spoke from an abundant joyD
Inspired by a hidden tuneN
He spoke like the mirrored moonN
That sits on a crystal lakeO
That from stillness did awakeO
Reflecting another lightM
The boy a fair shadow brightM
Follow the woman and childM
Up into the undefiledM
Follow to the Father s faceP
See yourself in his embraceP
A noble child of the kingQ
His beloved and his longingQ
Look into his endless eyesR
See where your true image liesR
For there in tears deep waterS
You are his son and daughterS
He honours you with his lookT
His love flowing like a brookT
Your cheeks like river banks fedM
Fall on his and make their bedM
Sinking into tender streamsU
Aloft upon happy beamsU
For even as the child spokeV
His words to them did evokeV
The reality of thisW
A sense of the Father s kissW
Every emotion and thoughtM
Tender and beautifully wroughtM
One of them the eldest thereE
Even aged with snowy hairE
Spied his flesh in waters clearX
Till his wrinkles did appearX
Then he ceased to dance aboutM
In suspense and held in doubtM
But straightway the Father spokeV
Death annulled his spirit wokeV
And in stillness of the airE
Words without wind echoed thereE
Held aloft by waves of joyD
Falling on a little boyD
Though your flesh old man declaresY
Gaze till your sweet spirit staresY
And in innocence you areZ
The bright shining of a starZ
For even as he listenedM
His face in waters glistenedM
Sweetly there the Father dearX
In his own face did appearX
His flesh with wrinkles seemed sureA2
But now young again and pureA2
For indeed his flesh was youngB2
In his eyes the Father sungB2
He sung of a country farZ
He sung like the morning starZ
He spoke like the distant shoreC2
That tells of things evermoreC2
On the horizon peepingQ
Imploring long and weepingQ
The children shout togetherS
Make calm the stormy weatherS
Their minds become a blue skyC
Where no cloud ever goes byC
The Father s love and longingQ
Makes them midst waves belongingQ
To the country of pure goldM
In clear sea their steps unfoldM
Glimpses of heavenly thingsD2
Sweet visions of he that singsD2
And smiles in soft waves breakingQ
So they find themselves wakingQ
Ever coming more aliveE2
As if they did there arriveE2
So that while on their journeyA
They are there just as surelyA
In the heavenly countryA
Dreaming of a distant seaA
The sparkles of a sweet dreamF2
Seem inside each wave's soft gleamF2
And in the realm of their heartM
With paradise never partM
The starry host numberlessA
Twinkling in their eyes caressA
The same sweetness with their brightM
Adding drops of dewy lightM
Oh bliss they left it behindM
So long ago and still findM
Joy joy joy ever growingQ
From infinity flowingQ
