QUINTI CATULIA
-
Constiteram exorientem Auroram forte salutansB
Cum subito a laeva Roscius exoriturC
Pace mihi liceat coelestes dicere vestraC
Mortalis visu pulchrior esse deoD
Blanditur puero satyrus vultuque manuqueE
Nolenti similis retrahit ora puerC
Quem non commoveat quamvis de marmore funditD
Pene preces satyrus pene puer lachrymasB
-
ENGLISHEDD
-
As once I bad good morning to the dayD
O' th' sudden Roscius breaks in a bright rayD
Gods with your favour I've presum'd to seeB
A mortal fairer then a deitieD
With looks and hands a satyre courts the boyF
Who draws back his unwilling cheek as coyF
Although of marble hewn whom move not theyD
The boy ev'n seems to weep the satyre prayD
