IA
In the nativity of timeB
Chloris it was not thought a crimeB
In direct Hebrew for to woeC
Now wee make love as all on fireD
Ring retrograde our lowd desireD
And court in English backward tooE
-
IIA
Thrice happy was that golden ageF
When complement was constru'd rageF
And fine words in the center hidG
When cursed NO stain'd no maid's blisseH
And all discourse was summ'd in YESH
And nought forbad but to forbidG
-
IIIA
Love then unstinted love did sipI
And cherries pluck'd fresh from the lipI
On cheeks and roses free he fedJ
Lasses like Autumne plums did dropK
And lads indifferently did dropK
A flower and a maiden headJ
-

Then unconfined each did tippleM
Wine from the bunch milk from the nippleM
Paps tractable as udders wereD
Then equally the wholsome jelliesH
Were squeez'd from olive trees and belliesH
Nor suits of trespasse did they fearN
-
VL
A fragrant bank of strawberriesH
Diaper'd with violets' eyesH
Was table table cloth and fareO
No palace to the clouds did swellP
Each humble princesse then did dwellP
In the Piazza of her hairO
-
VIL
Both broken faith and th' cause of itQ
All damning gold was damn'd to th' pitQ
Their troth seal'd with a clasp and kisseH
Lasted until that extreem dayR
In which they smil'd their souls awayR
And in each other breath'd new blisseH
-
VIIL
Because no fault there was no tearO
No grone did grate the granting earS
No false foul breath their del'cat smellP
No serpent kiss poyson'd the tastR
Each touch was naturally chastR
And their mere Sense a MiracleM
-
VIIIL
Naked as their own innocenceH
And unembroyder'd from offenceH
They went above poor riches gayR
On softer than the cignet's downT
In beds they tumbled off their ownU
For each within the other layR
-
IXH
Thus did they live thus did they loveL
Repeating only joyes aboveL
And angels were but with cloaths onV
Which they would put off cheerfullyL
To bathe them in the GalaxieH
Then gird them with the heavenly zoneU
-
XH
Now Chloris miserably craveL
The offer'd blisse you would not haveL
Which evermore I must denyL
Whilst ravish'd with these noble dreamsH
And crowned with mine own soft beamsH
Injoying of my self I lyeL
