Clitophon And Lucippe Translated. To The Ladies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDBBEEFFEE FFGHFFIIII IIBBHHBB EEHH JJHHBB

Pray ladies breath awhile lay byA
Caelestial Sydney's ARCADYB
Heere's a story that doth claimeC
A little respite from his flameC
Then with a quick dissolving lookeD
Unfold the smoothnes of this bookD
To which no art except your sightB
Can reach a worthy epithiteB
'Tis an abstract of all volumesE
A pillaster of all columnesE
Fancy e're rear'd to wit to beF
The smallest gods epitomeF
And so compactedly expresseE
All lovers pleasing wretchednesE
-
Gallant Pamela's majestyF
And her sweet sisters modestyF
Are fixt in each of you you areG
Distinct what these together wereH
Divinest that are reallyF
What Cariclea's feign'd to beF
That are ev'ry one the NineI
And brighter here Astreas shineI
View our Lucippe and remaineI
In her these beauties o're againeI
-
Amazement Noble ClitophonI
Ev'n now lookt somewhat colder onI
His cooler mistresse and she tooB
Smil'd not as she us'd to doB
See the individuall payreH
Are at sad oddes and parted areH
They quarrell aemulate and standB
At strife who first shal kisse your handB
-
A new dispute there lately roseE
Betwixt the Greekes and Latines whoseE
Temples should be bound with gloryH
In best languaging this storyH
-
Yee heyres of love that with one SMILEJ
A ten yeeres war can reconcileJ
Peacefull Hellens Vertuous SeeH
The jarring languages agreeH
And here all armes layd by they doeB
In English meet to wayt on youB
