Beauty Accurst Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH BJKL GMNM KOPO QROR STST

I am so fair that wheresoe'er I wendA
Men yearn with strange desire to kiss my faceB
Stretch out their hands to touch me as I passC
And women follow me from place to placeB
-
A poet writing honey of his dearD
Leaves the wet page ah leaves it long to dryE
The bride forgets it is her marriage mornF
The bridegroom too forgets as I go byE
-
Within the street where my strange feet shall strayG
All markets hush and traffickers forgetH
In my gold head forget their meaner goldI
The poor man grows unmindful of his debtH
-
Two lovers kissing in a secret placeB
Should I draw nigh will never kiss againJ
I come between the king and his desireK
And where I am all loving else is vainL
-
Lo when I walk along the woodland wayG
Strange creatures leer at me with uncouth loveM
And from the grass reach upward to my breastN
And to my mouth lean from the boughs aboveM
-
The sleepy kine move round me in desireK
And press their oozy lips upon my hairO
Toads kiss my feet and creatures of the mireP
The snails will leave their shells to watch me thereO
-
But all this worship what is it to meQ
I smite the ox and crush the toad in deathR
I only know I am so very fairO
And that the world was made to give me breathR
-
I only wait the hour when God shall riseS
Up from the star where he so long hath satT
And bow before the wonder of my eyesS
And set me there I am so fair as thatT
