Slowly slowlyA
Carefree and carelesslyA
You are driving her back toB
her shellC
-
Little by littleD
She keeps trying to makeE
You see the light of her emotionsF
Yet you tried to justify your actionsF
-
You blatantly turn your eyesG
Away from herH
Questioning her naivetyB
You stood as strong as a rockI
-
Umoved and unshakenJ
Pride and ego rule over your heartB
Like the water over the seaA
Ignoring the voice of her protestB
-
The verdict is pronouncedB
Unjust judgment judgedB
By a just kingK
He unknowingly pushed her off the cliffL
-
She closed her eyes tightB
And prayed to heavenJ
She surrendered yet painedB
The gentle breeze lamentedB
Heaven wept bitterly for its last creationJ
-
She never express herself againM
Her resentment and angerH
Never saw the light of dayB
Her pains and hurts are locked upN
in the Prison of her prideB
-
The depth of her painO
Is as deep as the seaA
Which will remain hiddenJ
-
Nuturing her emotions aloneP
Her scars take her back to theQ
memory laneO
It reminds her that it's a man's worldB
-
It hurts that she is just a damselD
Who will remain in her shellC
She is totally aloneP

Poet's note: The poem express the travails and struggles a girl was going through. She gave her all to man, a misunderstanding ensued in their relationship and she was judged and misunderstood by the love of her life. The aftermath of the man's action was the girl shutting off her emotions from him and the world, she was willing to accept whatever comes her way but never revealing her true emotions. She believes it's a man world and a woman's emotions has no place to stay. The poet persona wrote this poem out of the pain she felt when she was judged and misunderstood by the love of her life. The feeling evoke in this poem is that of sadness, pain, loneliness and total surrender to one's fate. Writing this poem relieved my pains and loneliness. This poem serves as my healing balm.

Jude Chukwuemeka Muoneke : The poem "WITHDRAWN" is touchy and intriguing. The Poet persona decries the emotional torture she is going through in the hands of her lover. And each time she tries to make him understand, he pays deaf ears to her words. Pride and ego take hold of him. Do men actually have a destructive pride? Maybe he has his reasons for ignoring her excuses. Just hope the Poet persona will understand that love is full of sacrifices. How long will you be withdrawn in the prison of your emotions? Love conquers it all. More grace to you my Poet.
