| the ship was tossed on a stormy sea | A |
| the waves they crashed against the rocks | B |
| whilst the sailors cursed and washed their socks | B |

| The ship did roll | C |
| the spray did fly | D |
| the Captain got some in his eye | D |
| and each man was certain that he would die | D |
| as he hung out his socks and he left them to dry | D |

| Then the ship it struck the rocks | B |
| Then it began to sink | E |
| The sailors died without their socks | B |
| with their pants in a bowl in the sink | E |
