On The Death Of Dr. Benjamin Franklin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABC DDEF GGHH IIJJKK

Thus some tall tree that long hath stoodA
The glory of its native woodA
By storms destroyed or length of yearsB
Demands the tribute of our tearsC
-
The pile that took long time to raiseD
To dust returns by slow decaysD
But when its destined years are o'erE
We must regret the loss the moreF
-
So long accustomed to your aidG
The world laments your exit madeG
So long befriended by your artH
Philosopher 'tis hard to partH
-
When monarchs tumble to the groundI
Successors easily are foundI
But matchless FRANKLIN what a fewJ
Can hope to rival such as YOUJ
Who seized from kings their sceptered prideK
And turned the lightning darts asideK
