It Is You Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEEFFGGHIJJKLCC MM M

It is you it is you poor better thoughtsA
The needful hope shame for the ancient blotsB
Heart's gentleness with mind's severityC
And vigilance and calm and constancyC
And all But slow as yet though well awakeD
Though sturdy shy scarce able yet to breakD
The spell of stifling night and heavy dreamsE
One comes after the other and each seemsE
Uncouther and all fear the moonlight coldF
Thus sheep when first they issue from the foldF
Come one then two then three The rest delayG
With lowered heads in stupid wondering wayG
Waiting to do as does the one that leadsH
He stops they stop in turn and lay their headsI
Across his back simply not knowing whyJ
Your shepherd O my fair flock is not IJ
It is a better better far who knowsK
The reasons He that so long kept you closeL
But timely with His own hand set you freeC
Him follow light His staff And I shall beC
Beneath his voice still raised to comfort youM
I shall be I His faithful dog and trueM
