The more unraveled mysteriesA
The more hidden discoveriesA
I packed my old rusty suitcaseB
Voyaging to a destination i thought I knewC
Until every element pointed at ignoranceD
I was treading a road with no signpostE
-
Take me to the crossroad where diligence leads to successF
I would urge the moulting spirit in meG
Rather than hold hands with my chaperoneH
Father scolding mother correctingI
Siblings and society demandingI
And there's the women figures inspiringI
-
I was full of life ate food was unbotheredE
My infant life picture perfect for a factE
Because a carrier was behind the scenesJ
At about the same time my mind bloomedE
My carrier's hands got weakerK
It dawned that my world was on my shoulderK
-
My eyes now saw what I thought was not thereL
And my ears could tell what the lips would sayM
Wobbly feet shaky hands I struggled to steadyE
I wanted to do more be moreN
Growing up is a job I never got paid forN
I did myself a favour else the world would blossom leaving me behindE
-
The World was watchingI
I burned my eyes out studying for collegeO
Biting my tongue in the name of rapping Kendrick's rhymesP
Learning every dance move to keep up with the trendE
Burning them calories for my hourglass summer bodyE
Yet I never seemed to be enough for myselfQ
-
The compulsion to make more impactE
I was walking on a tight ropeR
Indecision holding steadfast to my wild thoughtsS
Countless times I failed mocked and reprimandedE
I tripped over on my stepping stoneH
But I reysed nonethelessF
-
On some days I ran as lightening was fastE
Other times I trudged alongT
To find the light at the end of the trenchesU
Wishing I would find me too suddenV
Then and now my lover's palm pats my backW
I use a clean kiss to block away the painX
-
I'll tell you how I tasted a wide range of emotionsY
I drank from the cup of gaiety sobriety and tranquilityE
From the cup of duress depression and lackW
Forbidden fruits call out to meE
Since vices are becoming the new normalZ
I heeded the faint whispers of Mama's to ward off peer pressureK
-
I held on to large fragments of mother's redeE
This would mean giving up on some friendshipsA2
Redefining my values and drawing my boundariesA
It felt right I knew it was rightE
Perhaps my intuition has been my navigationV
I pressed on seeking to uphold my helper's policy of perfectionV
-
-
I desire to be a brand I'm proud of bent on doing everything rightE
But the night is never without it's demonsY
So I fall in the potholes of mistake and fearB2
Learning that one can never be too careful or too sureC2
Yet if I dwell on my flaws I remain on the floorsD2
So while I work and wait I don't forget to watch and prayM
-
When I tire I don't stop I only restE
In disguise of a treat a date or vacationV
For it's never over until it's overK
As exhausting as it sounds I can never stop growingI
Physically mentally financially and sociallyE
I can only pray the road narrows to a pool of self satisfactionV
-
As I growE2
I pledge to watch out for the signs of hopeR
I pledge to not seek validation elsewhere or self pityE
I pledge to never look for what is not thereL
For as I peer deep searching for the lightE
I know I will come to realize that I am the lightE
