Voyaging to a destination i thought I knew | C |

I was treading a road with no signpost | E |

Rather than hold hands with my chaperone | H |
Father scolding mother correcting | I |
Siblings and society demanding | I |
And there's the women figures inspiring | I |

I was full of life ate food was unbothered | E |
My infant life picture perfect for a fact | E |
Because a carrier was behind the scenes | J |
At about the same time my mind bloomed | E |
My carrier's hands got weaker | K |
It dawned that my world was on my shoulder | K |

My eyes now saw what I thought was not there | L |
And my ears could tell what the lips would say | M |
Wobbly feet shaky hands I struggled to steady | E |
I wanted to do more be more | N |
Growing up is a job I never got paid for | N |
I did myself a favour else the world would blossom leaving me behind | E |

I burned my eyes out studying for college | O |
Biting my tongue in the name of rapping Kendrick's rhymes | P |
Learning every dance move to keep up with the trend | E |
Burning them calories for my hourglass summer body | E |
Yet I never seemed to be enough for myself | Q |

The compulsion to make more impact | E |
I was walking on a tight rope | R |
Indecision holding steadfast to my wild thoughts | S |
Countless times I failed mocked and reprimanded | E |
I tripped over on my stepping stone | H |
But I reysed nonetheless | F |

On some days I ran as lightening was fast | E |
Other times I trudged along | T |
To find the light at the end of the trenches | U |
Wishing I would find me too sudden | V |
Then and now my lover's palm pats my back | W |
I use a clean kiss to block away the pain | X |

I'll tell you how I tasted a wide range of emotions | Y |
I drank from the cup of gaiety sobriety and tranquility | E |
From the cup of duress depression and lack | W |
Forbidden fruits call out to me | E |
Since vices are becoming the new normal | Z |
I heeded the faint whispers of Mama's to ward off peer pressure | K |

Redefining my values and drawing my boundaries | A |
It felt right I knew it was right | E |
Perhaps my intuition has been my navigation | V |
I pressed on seeking to uphold my helper's policy of perfection | V |

I can only pray the road narrows to a pool of self satisfaction | V |

I pledge to not seek validation elsewhere or self pity | E |
I pledge to never look for what is not there | L |
For as I peer deep searching for the light | E |
I know I will come to realize that I am the light | E |
