Nagasha Brenda
Poet's note: This poem is about a girl who is madly in love with an 'Etesot'. I wrote it in September 2021(after lockdown) on my way back from Soroti(Teso) to Kampala. The Iteso are a tribe that lives in the eastern part of Uganda and Kenya too. Iteso is in plural to mean two or many,Etesot is a male person from Teso while Atesot is the female person from Teso(Place).
Below are a few more new words I use in the poem and their meanings.
Arua - A district in the Northern Region of Uganda.
Awoja - River and Swamp that connects Lake Kyoga to Lake Bisina.
Emukule - Hides.
Ateso - A language spoken by the Iteso.
Akogo - a courtship dance among the Iteso.
