The golden spendthrift's trail among the blooms | C |
Where she stands tossing silver in the lakes | B |
And twisting bright swift threads on airy looms | C |
Her ring the poppy snatches and the rose | D |
With laughter plunders all her gusty plumes | C |
The poet gleans and gathers as she goes | D |
Heedless of summer's end certain and soon | E |
Of winter rattling at the door of June | E |

When Beauty lies hand folded pale and still | F |
Forsaken of her lovers and her lords | G |
And winter keeps cold watch upon the hill | F |
Then he lets fall his bale of coloured words | H |
At frosty midnight June shall rise in flame | I |
Move at his magic with her bells and birds | H |
The rose will redden as he speaks her name | I |
He shall release earth's frozen bosom there | J |
And with great words shall cuff the whining air | J |
