To The Author Of The Foregoing Pastoral - (love And Friendship) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFG HHIIJJKLMM NHOPQR

By Sylvia if thy charming self be meantA
If friendship be thy virgin vows' extentA
O let me in Aminta's praises joinB
Hers my esteem shall be my passion thineC
When for thy head the garland I prepareD
A second wreath shall bind Aminta's hairD
And when my choicest songs thy worth proclaimE
Alternate verse shall bless Aminta's nameE
My heart shall own the justice of her causeF
And Love himself submit to Friendship's lawsG
-
But if beneath thy numbers' soft disguiseH
Some favour'd swain some true Alexis liesH
If Amaryllis breathes thy secret painsI
And thy fond heart beats measure to thy strainsI
May'st thou howe'er I grieve for ever findJ
The flame propitious and the lover kindJ
May Venus long exert her happy powerK
And make thy beauty like thy verse endureL
May every god his friendly aid affordM
Pan guard thy flock and Ceres bless thy boardM
-
But if by chance the series of thy joysN
Permit one thought less cheerful to ariseH
Piteous transfer it to the mournful swainO
Who loving much who not beloved againP
Feels an ill fated passion's last excessQ
And dies in wo that thou may'st live in peaceR
