The Merchant, To Secure His Treasure Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDAE FGFG HIHH

The merchant to secure his treasureA
Conveys it in a borrowed nameB
Euphelia serves to grace my measureA
But Cloe is my real flameB
-
My softest verse my darling lyreC
Upon Euphelia's toilet lay mdashD
When Cloe noted her desireA
That I should sing that I should playE
-
My lyre I tune my voice I raiseF
But with my numbers mix my sighsG
And whilst I sing Euphelia's praiseF
I fix my soul on Cloe's eyesG
-
Fair Cloe blushed Euphelia frownedH
I sung and gazed I played and trembledI
And Venus to the Loves aroundH
Remarked how ill we all dissembledH
