The Female Phaeton Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB BBBB BCBC BDBD EBEB FEFE GHGH IJIJ

Thus Kitty beautiful and youngA
And wild as colt untamedB
Bespoke the fair from whence she sprungA
With little rage inflamedB
-
Inflamed with rage at sad restraintB
Which wise mamma ordain'dB
And sorely vex'd to play the saintB
Whilst wit and beauty reign'dB
-
Shall I thumb holy books confinedB
With Abigails forsakenC
Kitty's for other things design'dB
Or I am much mistakenC
-
Must Lady Jenny frisk aboutB
And visit with her cousinsD
At balls must she make all the routB
And bring home hearts by dozensD
-
What has she better pray than IE
What hidden charms to boastB
That all mankind for her should dieE
Whilst I am scarce a toastB
-
Dearest mamma for once let meF
Unchain'd my fortune tryE
I'll have my earl as well as sheF
Or know the reason whyE
-
I'll soon with Jenny's pride quit scoreG
Make all her lovers fallH
They'll grieve I was not loosed beforeG
She I was loosed at allH
-
Fondness prevail'd mamma gave wayI
Kitty at heart's desireJ
Obtain'd the chariot for a dayI
And set the world on fireJ
