Songs Set To Music: 9. Set By Mr. De Fesch Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC DEDE FGFG

Is it O love thy want of eyesA
Or by the Fates decreedB
That hearts so seldom sympathiseA
Or for each other bleedB
-
If thou wouldst make two youthful heartsA
One amorous shaft obeyC
'Twould save thee the expense of dartsA
And more extend thy swayC
-
Forbear alas thus to destroyD
Thyself thy growing powerE
For that which would be stretch'd by joyD
Despair will soon devourE
-
Ah wound then my relentless fairF
For thy own sake and mineG
That boundless may be my shareF
And double glory thineG
