Songs Set To Music: 28. Nelly. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDC EEFGGF HHIEEJ EEKEEK LLMEEM

Whilst others proclaimA
This nymph or that swainB
Dearest Nelly the lovely I'll singC
She shall grace every verseD
I'll her beauties rehearseD
Which lovers can't think an ill thingC
-
Her eyes shine as brightE
As stars in the nightE
Her complexion's divinely fairF
Her lips red as a cherryG
Would a hermit make merryG
And black as a coal is her hairF
-
Her breath like a roseH
Its sweets does discloseH
Whenever you ravish a kissI
Like ivory inchas'dE
Her teeth are well placedE
And exquisite beauty she isJ
-
Her plump breasts are whiteE
Delighting the sightE
There Cupid discovers her charmsK
Oh spare then the restE
And think of the bestE
'Tis heaven to die in her armsK
-
She's blooming as MayL
Brisk lively and gayL
The Graces all round about herM
She's prudent and wittyE
Sings wondrously prettyE
And there is no living without herM
