Songs Set To Music: 23. Set By Mr. De Fesch Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAB CDECD CFCCF GHGGH

Well I will never more complainA
Or call the Fates unkindB
Alas how fond it is how vainA
But self conceitedness does reignA
I nevery mortal mindB
-
'Tis true they long did me denyC
Nor would permit a sightD
I raged for I could not espyE
Or think that any harm could lieC
Disguised in that delightD
-
At last my wishes to fulfilC
They did their power resignF
I saw her but I wish I stillC
Had been obedient to their willC
And they not unto mineF
-
Yet I by this have learn'd the witG
Never to grieve or fretH
Contentedly I will submitG
And think that best which they think fitG
Without the least regretH
