Songs Set To Music: 19. Set By Mr. C. R. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB ACAC DEDE DFDF GHGI CECE

Phillis give this humour overA
We too long have time abusedB
I shall turn an errant roverA
If the favour's still refusedB
-
Faith 'tis nonsense out of measureA
Without ending thus to seeC
Women forced to taste a pleasureA
Which they love as well as weC
-
Let not pride and folly share youD
We were made but to enjoyE
Ne'er will Age or Censure spare youD
E'er the more for being coyE
-
Never fancy time's before youD
Youth believe me will awayF
Then alas who will adore youD
Or to wrinkles tribute payF
-
All the swains on you attendingG
Show how much your charms deserveH
But miser like for fear of spendingG
You amidst your plenty starveI
-
While a thousand freer lassesC
Who their youth and charms employE
Though your beauty theirs surpassesC
Live in far more perfect joyE
