Songs Set To Music: 18. Set By Mr. Smith Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

Since we your husband daily seeA
So jealous out of seasonB
Phillis let you and I agreeA
To make him so with reasonB
-
I'm vex'd to think that every nightC
A sot within thy armsD
Tasting the most divine delightC
Should sully all your charmsD
-
While fretting I must lie aloneE
Cursing the powers divineF
That undeservedly have thrownE
A pearl unto a swineF
-
Then Phillis heal my wounded heartG
My burning passion coolH
Let me at least in thee have partG
With thy insipid foolH
-
Let him by night his joys pursueI
And blunder in the darkJ
While I by day enjoying youI
Can see to hit the markJ
