Apelles' Draught and Ovid's Theme | F |
This guided Theseus thro' the Maze | G |
And sent Him home with Life and Praise | G |
But This undid the Phrygian Boy | H |
And blew the Flames that ruin'd Troy | H |
This shew'd great Kindness to old Greece | I |
And help'd rich Jason to the Fleece | I |
This thro' the East just Vengeance hurl'd | D |
And lost poor Anthony the World | D |
Injur'd tho' Lucrece found her Doom | J |
This banish'd Tyranny from Rome | K |
Appeas'd tho' Lais gain'd her Hire | L |
This set Persepolis on Fire | L |
For This Alcides learn'd to Spin | M |
His Club laid down and Lion's Skin | M |
For This Apollo deign'd to keep | N |
With servile Care a Mortal's Sheep | N |
For This the Father of the Gods | O |
Content to leave His high Abodes | O |
In borrow'd Figures loosely ran | P |
Europa's Bull and Leda's Swan | Q |
For This He reassumes the Nod | D |
While Semele commands the God | D |
Launces the Bolt and shakes the Poles | O |
Tho' Momus laughs and Juno scolds | O |
