Nonpareil Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHI JKLK LMLM NONO

Let others from the Town retireA
And in the fields seek new delightB
My Phillis does such joys inspireA
No other objects please my sightB
-
In her alone I find whate'erC
Beauties a country landscape graceD
No shade so lovely as her hairE
Nor plain so sweet as is her faceD
-
Lilies and roses there combineF
More beauteous than in flowery fieldG
Transparent is her skin so fineF
To this each crystal stream must yieldG
-
Her voice more sweet than warbling soundH
Though sung by nightingale or larkI
Her eyes such lustre dart aroundH
Compared to them the sun is darkI
-
Both light and vital heat they giveJ
Cherish'd by them my love takes rootK
From her kind looks does life receiveL
Grows a fair plant bears flowers and fruitK
-
Such fruit I ween did once deceiveL
The common parent of mankindM
And made transgress our mother EveL
Poison its core though fair its rindM
-
Yet so delicious is its tasteN
I cannot from the bait abstainO
But to th' enchanting pleasure hasteN
Though I were sure 'twould end in painO
