Light of the World and Ruler of the YearA
With happy Speed begin Thy great CareerA
And as Thou dost thy radiant Journeys runB
Through every distant Climate ownC
That in fair Albion Thou hast seenD
The greatest Prince the brightest QueenD
That ever sav'd a Land or blest a ThroneC
Since first Thy Beams were spread or Genial Power was knownC
-
IIE
So may Thy Godhead be confestF
So the returning Year be blestF
As His Infant Months bestowF
Springing Wreaths for William's BrowG
As His Summer's Youth shall shedF
Eternal Sweets around Maria's HeadF
From the Blessings They bestowF
Our Times are dated and our ra's moveH
They govern and enlighten all BelowF
As Thou dost all AboveI
-
IIIE
Let our Hero in the WarJ
Active and fierce like Thee appearA
Like Thee great Son of Jove like TheeK
When clad in rising MajestyK
Thou marchest down o'er Delos' Hills confestK
With all Thy Arrows arm'd in all Thy Glory drestK
Like Thee the Hero does his Arms imployF
The raging Python to destroyL
And give the injur'd Nations Peace and JoyL
-
IVI
From fairest Years and Time's more happy StoresM
Gather all the smiling HoursN
Such as with friendly Care have guardedK
Patriots and Kings in rightful WarsM
Such as with Conquest have rewardedK
Triumphant Victors happy CaresO
Such as Story has recordedK
Sacred to Nassau's long RenownP
For Countries sav'd and Battels wonB
-
VI
March Them again in fair ArrayQ
And bid Them form the happy DayQ
The happy Day design'd to waitK
On William's Fame and Europe's FateK
Let the happy Day be crown'dK
With great Event and fair SuccessR
No brighter in the Year be foundK
But That which brings the Victor home in PeaceS
-
VII
Again Thy Godhead We imploreJ
Great in Wisdom as in PowerT
Again for good Maria's Sake and Our'sS
Chuse out other smiling HoursS
Such as with Joyous Wings have fledK
When happy Counsels were advisingU
Such as have lucky Omens shedK
O'er forming Laws and Empires risingU
Such as many Courses ranV
Hand in Hand a goodly TrainW
To bless the great Eliza's ReignW
And in the Typic Glory showF
What fuller Bliss Maria shall bestowF
-
VIII
As the solemn Hours advanceS
Mingled send into the DanceS
Many fraught with all the TreasuresS
Which Thy Eastern Travels viewsS
Many wing'd with all the PleasuresS
Man can ask or Heav'n diffuseS
That great Maria all those Joys may knowF
Which from Her Cares upon Her Subjects flowF
-
VIIII
For Thy own Glory sing our Soveraign's PraiseS
God of Verses and of DaysS
Let all Thy tuneful Sons adornX
Their lasting Work with William's NameY
Let chosen Muses yet unbornX
Take great Maria for their future ThemeZ
Eternal Structures let Them raiseS
On William's and Maria's PraiseS
Nor want new Subject for the SongA2
Nor fear they can exhaust the StoreJ
'Till Nature's Musick lyes unstrungA2
'Till Thou great God shalt lose Thy double Pow'rB2
And touch Thy Lyre and shoot Thy Beams no moreJ
