Cupid Turned Stroller. - From Anacreon Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCDDEECCFFGHIJDDBB KKLMMFFNNOPQQ

At dead of night when stars appearA
And strong Bootes turns the BearB
When mortals sleep their cares awayC
Fatigued with labours of the dayC
Cupid was knocking at my gateD
Who's there says I who knocks so lateD
Disturbs my dreams and breaks my restE
O fear not me a harmless guestE
He said but open open prayC
A foolish child I've lost my wayC
And wander here this moonlight nightF
All wet and cold and wanting lightF
With due regard his voice I heardG
Then rose a ready lamp preparedH
And saw a naked boy belowI
With wings a quiver and a bowJ
In haste I ran unlock'd my gateD
Secure and thoughtless of my fateD
I set the child an easy chairB
Against the fire and dried his hairB
Brought friendly cups of cheerful wineK
And warm'd his little hands with mineK
All this did I with kind intentL
Said dearest Friend this bow ye seeM
This pretty bow belongs to meM
Observe I pray if all be rightF
I fear the rain has spoil'd it quiteF
He drew it then and straight I foundN
Within my breast a secret woundN
'Tis done the rogue no longer staidO
But leapt away and laughing saidP
Kind host adieu we now must partQ
Safe is my bow but sick thy heartQ
