A Simile Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEA FFGG HHIJKKLL

Dear Thomas didst thou never popA
Thy head into a tin man's shopA
There Thomas didst thou never seeB
'Tis but by way of simileC
A squirrel spend his little rageD
In jumping round a rolling cageD
The cage as either side turn'd upE
Striking a ring of bells a topA
-
Mov'd in the orb pleas'd with the chimesF
The foolish creature thinks he climbsF
But here or there turn wood or wireG
He never gets two inches higherG
-
So fares it with those merry bladesH
That frisk it under Pindus' shadesH
In noble songs and lofty odesI
They tread on stars and talk with godsJ
Still dancing in an airy roundK
Still pleas'd with their own verses' soundK
Brought back how fast soe'er they goL
Always aspiring always lowL
