Vignettes 22: To The Hetman, Platoff Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH

O ancient warrior as we hail theeA
And behold thy cordial smileB
We hope that greetings ne'er may fail theeA
Such as those of Britain's isleB
-
They are although so seeming rudeC
Given only where we think them dueD
Most courteous e'en when they intrudeC
Too vehement but always trueD
-
Applauses which no art can fashionE
Which speak the feelings and no moreF
Which give respect the glow of passionE
When worth and valour we adoreF
-
Blest is the hero in receivingG
And pride may scoff at or despiseH
What if but once sincere believingG
Is grateful to the good and wiseH
