On The Eve Of Departure From O'' Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Loud beats the rain The hollow groanA
Of rushing winds I hearB
That with a deep and sullen moanA
Pass slowly by the earB
-
Soon will my dying fire refuseC
To yield a cheerful rayD
Yet shivering still I sit and museC
The latest spark awayD
-
Ah what a night the chilly airE
Bids comfort hence departF
While sad repining's clammy wingsG
Cling icy to my heartF
-
To morrow's dawn may fair ariseH
And lovely to the viewI
The sun with radiance gild the skiesH
Yet then I say adieuI
-
Oh stay dear Night with cautious careE
And lingering footsteps moveJ
Though day may be more soft and fairE
Not her but thee I loveK
-
Stay wild in brow severe in mienL
Stay and ward off the foeM
Who unrelenting smiles sereneL
Yet tells me I must goM
-
Forsake these hospitable hallsN
Where Truth and Friendship dwellO
To these high towers and ancient wallsN
Pronounce a long farewellO
-
Alas will Time's rapacious handP
These golden days restoreQ
Or will he suffer me to tasteR
These golden days no moreQ
-
Will he permit that here againS
I turn my willing feetT
That my glad eyes may here againS
The look of kindness meetT
-
That here I ever may beholdU
Felicity to dwellO
And often have the painful taskV
Of sighing out farewellO
-
Ah be it so my fears I loseC
By hope's sweet visions fedW
And as I fly to seek reposeX
She flutters round my bedW
-
