Invitation, To J.b.c. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEE FGHHIJKKLL MNIIOO P

Now spring appears with beauty crown'dA
And all is light and life aroundA
Why comes not Jane When friendship callsB
Why leaves she not Augusta's wallsB
Where cooling zephyrs faintly blowC
Nor spread the cheering healthful glowC
That glides through each awaken'd veinD
As skimming o'er the spacious plainD
We look around with joyous eyeE
And view no boundaries but the skyE
-
Already April's reign is o'erF
Her evening tints delight no moreG
No more the violet scents the galeH
No more the mist o'erspreads the valeH
The lovely queen of smiles and tearsI
Who gave thee birth no more appearsJ
But blushing May with brow sereneK
And vestments of a livelier greenK
Commands the winged choir to singL
And with wild notes the meadows ringL
-
O come ere all the train is goneM
No more to hail thy twenty oneN
That age which higher honor sharesI
And well becomes the wreath it wearsI
From lassitude and cities fleeO
And breathe the air of heav'n with meO
-
