Fragment (ii) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDBEFFGGHHDDII JJKLMMNNOO PPEEQQ

Where yonder mossy ruins lieA
And desolation strikes the eyeA
A noble mansion high and fairB
Once rear'd its turrets in the airB
There infant warriors drew their breathC
And learn'd to scorn the fear of deathC
In halls where martial trophies hungD
They listen'd while the minstrels sungD
Of pain and glory toil and careB
And all the horrid charms of warE
There caught the fond desire of fameF
And panted for a hero's nameF
Alas too oft in youthful bloomG
Renown has crown'd the early tombG
Has pierc'd the widow's bosom deepH
And taught the mother's eyes to weepH
She on whose tale the stripling hungD
While pride and sorrow rul'd her tongueD
His father's gallant acts to tellI
How bold he fought how bravely fellI
-
Methinks e'en now I hear her speakJ
I see the tear upon her cheekJ
The musing boy's abstracted browK
And the high arching eye belowL
The stifled sigh and anxious heaveM
The kindling heart which dares not grieveM
The finely elevated headN
The hand upon the bosom spreadN
Proclaim him wrought by potent charmsO
And speak his very soul in armsO
-
Incautious zeal what hast thou doneP
The tale has robb'd thee of thy sonP
And while thy pious tears deploreE
The loss of him who lives no moreE
Ambition wakes her restless fireQ
The boy will emulate his sireQ
