The Mystic's Vision Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF AAAAAA AGAGHH IAIAJJ KFKFLL GMGMAA

Ah I shall kill myself with dreamsA
These dreams that softly lap me roundB
Through trance like hours in which meseemsA
That I am swallowed up and drownedB
Drowned in your love which flows o'er meC
As o'er the seaweed flows the seaC
-
In watches of the middle nightD
'Twixt vesper and 'twist matin bellE
With rigid arms and straining sightD
I wait within my narrow cellE
With muttered prayers suspended willF
I wait your advent statue stillF
-
Across the convent garden wallsA
The wind blows from the silver seasA
Black shadow of the cypress fallsA
Between the moon meshed olive treesA
Sleep walking from their golden bowersA
Flit disembodied orange flowersA
-
And in God's consecrated houseA
All motionless from head to feetG
My heart awaits her heavenly SpouseA
As white I lie on my white sheetG
With body lulled and soul awakeH
I watch in anguish for your sakeH
-
And suddenly across the gloomI
The naked moonlight sharply swingsA
A Presence stirs within the roomI
A breath of flowers and hovering wingsA
Your presence without form and voidJ
Beyond all earthly joys enjoyedJ
-
My heart is hushed my tongue is muteK
My life is centred in your willF
You play upon me like a luteK
Which answers to its master's skillF
Till passionately vibratingL
Each nerve becomes a throbbing stringL
-
Oh incommunicably sweetG
No longer aching and apartM
As rain upon the tender wheatG
You pour upon my thirsty heartM
As scent is bound up in the roseA
Your love within my bosom glowsA
