Once We Played Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGHG DIDD AJAJ

ONCE we played at love togetherA
Played it smartly if you pleaseB
Lightly as a windblown featherA
Did we stake a heart apieceC
-
Oh it was delicious foolingD
In the hottest of the gameE
Without thought of future coolingD
All too quickly burned Life's flameE
-
In this give and take of glancesF
Kisses sweet as honey dewsG
When we played with equal chancesH
Did you win or did I loseG
-
Was your heart then hurt to bleedingD
In the ardour of the throwI
Was it then I lost unheedingD
Lost my heart so long agoD
-
Who shall say The game is overA
Of us two who loved in funJ
One lies low beneath the cloverA
One lies lonely in the sunJ
