On And On Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GEGE HCHC EIEI JKJK

By long leagues of wood and meadowA
On and on we drive apaceB
In the dreamy light and shadowA
Veiling earth's autumnal faceB
-
Rosy clouds are drifting o'er usC
Rooks rise parleying from their trystD
And the road lies far before usC
Fading into amethystD
-
On and on through leagues of heatherE
Deeps of scarlet beaded laneF
Like a pheasant's golden featherE
Golden leaves around us rainF
-
On and on where woodlands hoaryG
In October's lavish fireE
Flame up with unearthly gloryG
Beauteous summer's funeral pyreE
-
On and on where casements blinkingH
Lighten into transient gulesC
As the dying day in sinkingH
Splashes all the wayside poolsC
-
On and on the land grows dimmerE
And our road recedes afarI
While on either hand there glimmerE
Setting sun and rising starI
-
Would I knew what thoughts steal o'er youJ
As the long road lengthens yetK
Ah like hope it winds before youJ
And behind me like regretK
