Manchester By Night Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBCCBBC DEDFDE

O'er this huge town rife with intestine warsA
Whence as from monstrous sacrificial shrinesB
Pillars of smoke climb heavenward Night inclinesB
Black brows majestical with glimmering starsC
Her dewy silence soothes life's angry jarsC
And like a mother's wan white face who pinesB
Above her children's turbulent ways so shinesB
The moon athwart the narrow cloudy barsC
-
Now toiling multitudes that hustling crushD
Each other in the fateful strife for breathE
And hounded on by diverse hungers rushD
Across the prostrate ones that groan beneathF
Are swathed within the universal hushD
As life exchanges semblances with deathE
