In The St. Gotthardt Pass Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCAABBA DDDDDD

The storm which shook the silence of the hillsA
And sleeping pinnacles of ancient snowB
Went muttering off in one last thunder throeC
Mixed with a moan of multitudinous rillsA
Yea even as one who has wept much but stillsA
The flowing tears of some convulsive woeB
When a fair light of hope begins to glowB
Athwart the gloom of long remembered illsA
-
So does the face of this scarred mountain heightD
Relax its stony frown while slow uprolledD
Invidious mists are changed to veiling goldD
Wild peaks still fluctuate between dark and brightD
But when the sun laughs at them as of oldD
They kiss high heaven in all embracing lightD
