Christmas Even Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCDEF

Alone with one fair star for companyA
The loveliest star among the hosts of nightB
While the grey tide ebbs with the ebbing lightB
I pace along the darkening wintry seaA
Now round the yule log and the glittering treeA
Twinkling with festive tapers eyes as brightB
Sparkle with Christmas joys and young delightB
As each one gathers to his familyA
-
But I a waif on earth where'er I roamC
Uprooted with life's bleeding hopes and fearsD
From that one heart that was my heart's sole homeC
Feel the old pang pierce through the severing yearsD
And as I think upon the years to comeE
That fair star trembles through my falling tearsF
