Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDEDE FGFGHIJI A KLKL MNMN OPOP A QRSQ TUUT BVVB

IA
-
I will take your thoughts to my heartB
I will keep and garner them thereC
Locked in a casket apartB
Far above rubies or rareC
Pearls from the prodigal deepD
Which men stake their lives on to findE
And women their beauty to keepD
I will treasure the pearls of your mindE
-
How long has it taken the earthF
To crystallize gems in a mineG
How long was the sea giving birthF
To her pearls washed in bitterest brineG
What sorrows what struggles what fierceH
Endeavour of lives in the pastI
Hearts tempered by fire and tearsJ
To fashion your manhood at lastI
-
-
IIA
-
TAKE me to thy heart and let meK
Rest my head a little whileL
Rest my heart from griefs that fret meK
In the mercy of thy smileL
-
In a twilight pause of feelingM
Time to say a moment's graceN
Put thy hands whose touch is healingM
Put them gently on my faceN
-
Found too late in Life's wild welterO
All I ask for weal and woeP
Friend a moment's friendly shelterO
And thy blessing ere I goP
-
-
IIIA
-
FULL many loves and friendships dearQ
Have blossomed brightly in my pathR
And some were like the primrose ratheS
And withered with the vernal yearQ
-
And some were like the joyous roseT
Most prodigal with scent and hueU
That glows while yet the sky is blueU
And falls with every wind that blowsT
-
Mere guests and annuals of the heartB
But you are that perennial bayV
Greenest when greener leaves decayV
Whom only death shall bid departB
