To A Lady In The Spleen Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGFG HCHC IJIK

Why lovely Lelia so depress'dA
With wonted Smiles your Eyes adornB
Drive gloomy Sorrow from your BreastA
And shine out beauteous as the MornB
-
The fair Pendarvis bid me tryC
For you to tune my Lyre againD
To your lov'd Presence instant flyC
And sooth you with some joyous StrainE
-
But if Pendarvis born to pleaseF
Does in her native Province failG
Nor can your anxious Bosom easeF
Alas how should my Muse prevailG
-
Shall Heav'n that form'd thee wond'rous fairH
Behold thee thus repining lieC
Dependent on that Guardian CareH
To blissful Prospects turn your EyeC
-
Lelia thy lovely Form surveyI
Let blooming Beauty plead her CauseJ
Her pow'rful Empire fleets awayI
Too soon alas by Nature's LawsK
