I grieve to think that Waller's blam'd | B |
Waller so long so justly fam'd | B |
Then own your Verses writ in Haste | C |
Or I shall say you've lost your Taste | C |
- | |
Perhaps your loyal Heart disdains | D |
A Poet who could take such Pains | D |
To tune his sweet immortal Lays | E |
To an usurping Tyrant's Praise | E |
And where you hate the Man I see | F |
You never like his Poetry | F |
The Truth of this your Verse discovers | G |
So you abus'd the Conscious Lovers | G |
- | |
Tho' in your Principles you glory | F |
The Muses are nor Whig nor Tory | F |
So from your Sentence they appeal | H |
Nor will be judg'd by Party Zeal | H |
Whene'er a Poet's to be try'd | C |
Let Pope hereafter be your Guide | C |
Survey the Whole nor seek slight Faults to find | C |
Where Nature moves and Rapture warms the Mind | C |
