I grieve to think that Waller's blam'dB
Waller so long so justly fam'dB
Then own your Verses writ in HasteC
Or I shall say you've lost your TasteC
-
Perhaps your loyal Heart disdainsD
A Poet who could take such PainsD
To tune his sweet immortal LaysE
To an usurping Tyrant's PraiseE
And where you hate the Man I seeF
You never like his PoetryF
The Truth of this your Verse discoversG
So you abus'd the Conscious LoversG
-
Tho' in your Principles you gloryF
The Muses are nor Whig nor ToryF
So from your Sentence they appealH
Nor will be judg'd by Party ZealH
Whene'er a Poet's to be try'dC
Let Pope hereafter be your GuideC
Survey the Whole nor seek slight Faults to findC
Where Nature moves and Rapture warms the MindC
