Jupiter And Fortune. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDD EEBBFFBBBBGHIIJJBB BBKK

Once Jupiter from out the SkiesA
Beheld a thousand Temples riseA
The Goddess Fortune all invok'dB
To Jove an Altar seldom smoak'dB
The God resolv'd to make InspectionC
What had occasion'd this DefectionC
And bid the Goddess tell the ArtsD
By which she won deluded HeartsD
-
My Arts says she Great Jove you knowE
That I do ev'ry Thing belowE
I make my Vot'ries dine on PlateB
I give the gilded Coach of StateB
Bestow the glitt'ring Gems that deckF
The fair Lavinia's lovely NeckF
I make Novella Nature's BoastB
And raise Valeria to a ToastB
'Tis I who give the Stupid TasteB
Or make the Poets lie at leastB
My fav'rite Sons whene'er they pleaseG
Can Palaces in Desarts raiseH
Cut out Canals make Fountains playI
And make the dreary Waste look gayI
Ev'n Vice seems Virtue by my SmilesJ
I gild the Villain's gloomy WilesJ
Nay almost raise him to a GodB
While crowded Levees wait his NodB
-
Enough the Thunderer reply'dB
But say whom have you satisfy'dB
These boasted Gifts are thine I ownK
But know Content is mine aloneK
