I'll tell you the story of JonahA
A really remarkable taleB
A peaceful and humdrum existence he hadC
Until one day he went for a sailB
-
The weather were grand when they startedD
But later at turn of the tideE
The wind started blowing the water got roughF
And Jonah felt funny insideE
-
When the ship started pitching and tossingG
He tried hard his feelings to smotherH
At last he just leant his head over the sideE
And one thing seemed to bring up anotherH
-
When the sailors saw what he were doingG
It gave them a bit of a jarI
They didn't mind trippers enjoying theirselvesJ
But thowt this 'ere were going too farI
-
Said one Is there nowt you can think onK
To stop you from feelin' so badC
And Jonah said Aye lift me over the sideE
And chuck me in there's a good ladC
-
The sailor were not one to argueL
He said Happen you know what's bestM
Then he picked Jonah up by the seat of his pantsN
And chucked him in as per requestM
-
A Grampus came up at that momentO
And seeing the old man hard setP
It swam to his side and it opened its mouthQ
And said Come in lad out of the wetP
-
Its manner were kindly and pleadingG
As if to say R S V PR
Said Jonah I've eaten a kipper or twoL
But I never thowt one would eat meR
-
The inside of Grampus surprised himS
'Twere the first time he'd been behind scenesT
He found 'commodation quite ample for oneU
But it smelled like a tin of sardinesT
-
Then over the sea they went cruisingG
And Jonah were filled with delightV
With his eye to the blow 'ole in t'Grampus's headW
He watched ships that passed in the nightV
-
I'm tired of watching said JonahA
I'll rest for a minute or soX
I'm afraid as you wont find your bed very softY
Said the Grampus I've got a hard roeX
-
At that moment up came a whale boatZ
Said Jonah What's this 'ere we've struckA2
They're after my blubber the Grampus repliedE
You'd better 'old tight while I duckA2
-
The water came in through the spy 'oleB
And hit Jonah's face a real slosherX
He said Shut your blow 'ole and Grampus repliedE
I can't lad it needs a new washerX
-
Jonah tried 'ard to bail out the waterX
But found all his efforts in vainB2
For as fast as he emptied the slops out through the gillsC2
They came in through the blow 'ole againD2
-
When at finish they came to the surfaceE2
Jonah took a look out and he sawF2
They were stuck on a bit of a sandbank that layB
One rod pole or perch from the shoreX
-
Said the Grampus We're in shallow waterX
I've brought you as far as I mayB
If you sit on the blow 'ole on top of my headW
I'll spout you the rest of the wayB
-
So Jonah obeyed these instructionsG2
And the Grampus his lungs did expandH2
Then blew out a fountain that lifted Jo' upI2
And carried him safely to landH2
-
There was tears in their eyes when they partedD
And each blew a kiss a real big 'unD2
Then the Grampus went off with a swish of it's tailB
And Jonah walked back home to WiganD2
