A really remarkable tale | B |
A peaceful and humdrum existence he had | C |
Until one day he went for a sail | B |
- | |
The weather were grand when they started | D |
But later at turn of the tide | E |
The wind started blowing the water got rough | F |
And Jonah felt funny inside | E |
- | |
When the ship started pitching and tossing | G |
He tried hard his feelings to smother | H |
At last he just leant his head over the side | E |
And one thing seemed to bring up another | H |
- | |
When the sailors saw what he were doing | G |
It gave them a bit of a jar | I |
They didn't mind trippers enjoying theirselves | J |
But thowt this 'ere were going too far | I |
- | |
Said one Is there nowt you can think on | K |
To stop you from feelin' so bad | C |
And Jonah said Aye lift me over the side | E |
And chuck me in there's a good lad | C |
- | |
The sailor were not one to argue | L |
He said Happen you know what's best | M |
Then he picked Jonah up by the seat of his pants | N |
And chucked him in as per request | M |
- | |
A Grampus came up at that moment | O |
And seeing the old man hard set | P |
It swam to his side and it opened its mouth | Q |
And said Come in lad out of the wet | P |
- | |
Its manner were kindly and pleading | G |
As if to say R S V P | R |
Said Jonah I've eaten a kipper or two | L |
But I never thowt one would eat me | R |
- | |
The inside of Grampus surprised him | S |
'Twere the first time he'd been behind scenes | T |
He found 'commodation quite ample for one | U |
But it smelled like a tin of sardines | T |
- | |
Then over the sea they went cruising | G |
And Jonah were filled with delight | V |
With his eye to the blow 'ole in t'Grampus's head | W |
He watched ships that passed in the night | V |
- | |
I'm tired of watching said Jonah | A |
I'll rest for a minute or so | X |
I'm afraid as you wont find your bed very soft | Y |
Said the Grampus I've got a hard roe | X |
- | |
At that moment up came a whale boat | Z |
Said Jonah What's this 'ere we've struck | A2 |
They're after my blubber the Grampus replied | E |
You'd better 'old tight while I duck | A2 |
- | |
The water came in through the spy 'ole | B |
And hit Jonah's face a real slosher | X |
He said Shut your blow 'ole and Grampus replied | E |
I can't lad it needs a new washer | X |
- | |
Jonah tried 'ard to bail out the water | X |
But found all his efforts in vain | B2 |
For as fast as he emptied the slops out through the gills | C2 |
They came in through the blow 'ole again | D2 |
- | |
When at finish they came to the surface | E2 |
Jonah took a look out and he saw | F2 |
They were stuck on a bit of a sandbank that lay | B |
One rod pole or perch from the shore | X |
- | |
Said the Grampus We're in shallow water | X |
I've brought you as far as I may | B |
If you sit on the blow 'ole on top of my head | W |
I'll spout you the rest of the way | B |
- | |
So Jonah obeyed these instructions | G2 |
And the Grampus his lungs did expand | H2 |
Then blew out a fountain that lifted Jo' up | I2 |
And carried him safely to land | H2 |
- | |
There was tears in their eyes when they parted | D |
And each blew a kiss a real big 'un | D2 |
Then the Grampus went off with a swish of it's tail | B |
And Jonah walked back home to Wigan | D2 |
